In the cloud-covered northern latitudes of coastal Alaska, winter skies bring little sunlight. Yet, when skies quickly clear due to high winds, lenticular clouds form and the pink and purple hues yield a rich and colorful sunset like this one taken from my Kodiak Island home at dusk.
