While kayaking out of Pederson Lagoon in Aialak Bay with a friend, this black bear was eating salmon carcasses that lay along the shoreline after spawning. I paddled a little closer and sat quietly drifting in my kayak while looking through the camera viewfinder awaiting a good shot. As I snapped this picture, it looked up and noticed me. I sat still and did not move--but I did not realize at the time that my kayak continued to drift toward the bear with the current.
