While kayaking into Pederson Lagoon in Aialak Bay, this large black bear was combing the banks for salmon carcasses that lay along the shore after spawning. Prior to this shot, it had scared away a smaller black bear and chased another away as it worked its way down to the shore. I had intended to go for a hike after kayaking up the lagoon. However, due to the steady and unfriendly stare of this bear--I thought it was best to continue paddling a good distance from shore!
