Breaching Art
SKU:

Overview
With the beautiful Kahoolawe Island in the background, this humpback whale is seen in a full breach. Breaching is a common behavior seen with this species, especially during breeding season in the warmer latitudes. It takes only 2-3 strokes of their flukes to propel their 25-35 ton bodies completely out of the water! While there are many theories as to why they breach, most believe it is a way to "shake-off" the dying barnacles that the whales accumulated in the colder, northern latitudes where they feed. Another popular theory is because they can!
