While snorkeling and free-diving along the southwest Kona coast of Hawaii's big island, I photographed these three Hawaiian spinner dolphins as they rested near the bottom of a 100-foot deep sandy-bottomed bay. Spinner dolphins in Hawaii use the coastal sandy-bottomed bays for rest during the daylight hours and they go offshore around dusk and feed at night when their prey vertically migrates to the surface from the deeper waters. I intentionally exploited the low light, depth and film grain to give the final image an artistic elegance.
